my little sister is a stylist for the Gap clothing chain. on her photo shoots, she discovered a need for a “utility belt” that would hold all her supplies, tools, etc. so she went about creating a mini-apron/utility belt out of fabric scraps and other materials she could easily get her hands on. after making a couple of these, she got the attention of the other stylists and production assistants, and soon after, she started making custom belts for the entire crew. she was filling orders for 2-3 a week. what her “customers” liked about her belts vs the similar ones found at fabric stores, was the craftsmanship and character that was sewn into each belt. find a need, create a solution, and do it in an honest and loving way.
